BONUS+ Borrowing Scheme

Massey University current students (except for overseas distance students) and current staff can borrow selected books from a number of Australian and New Zealand University Libraries for free.

If the book you need is not held at any Massey University Library, or, all the Massey University Library copies are on loan, you can easily request it online from another BONUS+ library.

How Does BONUS+ Work?

  • Search Discover for the book you require.
  • If the book you require is not available, click on the BONUS+ icon and you will be linked to the same book in the BONUS+ catalogue. 
    If you have any difficulties linking to your title in BONUS+, or the title you require is not owned by us, you can search for it directly in the BONUS+ shared catalogue.
  • Select "Request this item".
  • Select "Massey University".
  • Enter your details as prompted
  • Choose your campus as a pick up location (Distance students please choose "Distance delivery").
  • You may enter a deadline date (this is optional). If your item cannot be supplied your request will be automatically cancelled on this date.
  • Click on "Submit".
  • If you get a message "Sorry, no copies available for requests" either all copies in BONUS+ are on loan and not due back within 14 days or there are two or more requests on all copies.

Delivery time is about 5 - 7 working days.

Internal students: you will be notified by email to collect your requested items from your campus library.
Distance students: your items will be posted to you.
Staff: your items will be sent to you in the internal mail.  


Reading History

If you have opted in to Reading History in MyLibrary, BONUS+ items will not appear.

How Can I Cancel a BONUS+ Request?

If a BONUS+ item still has a REQUESTED status, you may cancel the request at any time by logging into your MyLibrary record.

What Are the BONUS+ Borrowing Rules?

The loan period for all borrowers is 21 days. You can request an additional two renewals of 21 days via your MyLibrary record. If other users are waiting for the item it will not be possible to renew.

  • Undergraduate students can have up to 5 current requests at any one time
  • Postgraduates can have up to 10 current requests at any one time
  • Staff can have up to 10 current requests at any one time

Current requests includes items currently checked out to you as well as any requests arriving from, or in the process of being returned to, the owning library.

Fines and Lost items

There are no overdue fines charged on BONUS+ items. Other charges are the same as for other items at Massey University, although the replacement cost for a lost Bonus+ book will be charged at 15 days overdue and is a standard fee of NZ$160.00.  If the lending library has invoiced us for a lost item and we have paid for it, no refund will be given if the item is subsequently found and returned. This applies to all lost BONUS+ items.

What else is available from the BONUS+ Catalogue?

You can also search the BONUS+ shared catalogue (which includes selected material from the participating libraries, but does not reflect the complete collection of any library). The shared catalogue contains over 7 million items. Certain materials (such as short loan and audiovisual materials) are not included.
