Distance students orientation programme

The Distance Learner Orientation Programme is designed to give you the means to prepare for university study. You will find out how to access the tools and resources for distance learning.

This year we're coming to you with our Getting on Track regional visits.

Online orientation

Online orientation sessions

Studying by distance with Massey is a unique experience. An introductory one hour session will be held to help you understand and navigate the online university environment.

You will also be given information about services available to help you with your studies including:

  • student learning 
  • library services
  • student services
  • advocacy and support services

Each session will cover the same topics and there will be time for questions and answers at the end.

  • Wednesday 19 February: 12pm
  • Thursday 20 February: 7.30pm

On-campus orientation

On-campus orientation days

On-campus orientation is held at each campus for new students, including distance students. This is a great opportunity to learn about Massey University and meet other students.

If you would like to attend on-campus orientation, make sure your register to attend for that campus.

Networking events

Distance students are also invited to attend all campus events if they are in the vicinity, including the 1-hour networking events:

  • Manawatū campus
    Wednesday 19 February, 5.30pm at The Centre
  • Wellington campus
    Thursday 20 February, 5.00pm at Tussock cafe. Please RSVP here.

Getting on track - regional visits

At getting on track you will be able to meet with:

  • A support staff member will check your enrolment details, discuss course planning and workload. They can put you in touch with an Academic Advisor if you require further support.
  • A support staff member who will share with you tips and tricks for studying at a distance.
  • The Pasifika Learning Adviser who will guide you on tips of how to be a successful Pasifika distance student, connect you to the Pasifika support at Massey University and attend to any questions regarding your studies (Auckland, Wellington and Lower Hutt).
  • The MUSA Distance Advocate who provides independent support and advice ranging from course, welfare and financial assistance.
  • A Stream (learning environment) expert who can teach you how to navigate and get the most out of Stream.
  • Other new distance students who are on a similar journey to you.

We invite you to bring your laptop along and we can assist you with learning about Stream (online learning environment).

Pay and display parking available on campus via Entrance A. More pay and display parking is available in the Lower Level King Street parking.

Getting started with Stream

It is a good idea to read the Getting Started section in Stream, Massey's online learning centre.

The information on Getting Started is available approximately four weeks before lectures start and will help you prepare for your first semester.
